The EMBL Career Day is an EICAT activity organised jointly by the EMBL Postdoctoral Programme, the EMBL International PhD Programme and with EMBL's technology transfer branch EMBLEM. The event aims to provide an overview of alternative, non-academic career possibilities and is open to EMBL staff at all levels and from all sites. Additionally, young scientists from EMBO Young Investigator (YIP) laboratories and  local scientific institutions in the Metropole Region Rhein-Neckar are also invited to participate.

While following an academic-oriented career path during their PhDs and post-docs, scientists have a great choice of positions outside of academic research afterwards. Each year we present a selection of speakers with a scientific background, who have made the move into a large variety of different professions.

The speakers specifically talk about their personal career choices, explain how they made the leap into another field and give a personal insight into their day-to-day work life. In addition to the talks, small group sessions over lunch allow attendees to discuss further details with speakers and provide an exclusive networking opportunity to gather other opinions and make an informed decision when exploring alternative career choices.
