All EMBL units use computational resources in their research. Scientists across EMBL with a wide range of computational expertise have formed the Bio-IT community, providing resources aimed at supporting bioinformaticians and bench scientists in their work.

The main aims of the community are to facilitate interaction and collaboration between computational biologists across and within different EMBL units. To this end Bio-IT promotes social and professional networking events and provides a focal point for biocomputing resources.

Amongst other resources the community provides

  • a web portal (accessible internally only) which acts as a central access point for the community

  • a forum for discussing and sharing Bio-IT experience and resources

  • information on Bio-IT related courses and conferences

  • contact information for advice from internal EMBL experts on a range of different computational tools
